Kyösti Kallio, elected as President of the Republic in February, appoints a government led by A. K. Cajander, with the Social Democrats, the Agrarian League and the Progress Party represented in the government. It is the first time in independent Finland that the Social Democrats participate in a majority government.

31 May

The parliament passes the National Pensions Act, which will enter into force at the beginning of 1939. The law guarantees a pension for all persons aged 65 and over.
