The Finnish Red Cross is founded.

24 October

The Finnish Guard participates in the conquest of the Gorni-Dubnik fortress in Bulgaria in the Russo-Turkish War. Twenty-four Finnish soldiers are killed, five of them officers. In addition, 94 men are wounded.

10 December

An electric arc lamp is tested at the State Railways’ machine shop.

12 December

The first telephone line in Finland is installed 18 months after the invention of the telephone.
