10 June

Peace talks between Finland and Soviet Russia start in Tartu.

14–30 August

At the Olympic Games in Antwerp, the Finnish team marches into the arena as an independent nation under the Blue Cross Flag. The Finnish team wins 34 medals altogether, comprising 15 gold, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals.

14 October

Finland and Soviet Russia sign a peace treaty in Tartu, Estonia. Finland gets Petsamo, and the eastern border is confirmed to be the eastern border of the former Grand Duchy of Finland.

16 December

Finland is accepted as a member of the League of Nations.

23 December

The parliament passes a Surname Act under which every Finn must have a surname.
