26 February

Jean Sibelius conducts the premiere of his seventh symphony in Stockholm. The symphony is to be the composer’s last. The seventh symphony will not be heard in Finland until 1927.

20 March

Aero Oy starts a regular air service between Helsinki and Tallinn.

5–20 July

The Finnish team wins 37 medals at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, including 14 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals. Paavo Nurmi, at the peak of his career, wins five gold medals. In an unprecedented feat, Nurmi wins the 1,500-metre and 5,000-metre races that were run on the same day (10 July 1924), with only two hours between the races. Finland is ranked second in the medal table.
