The Helsinki Finnish Club is established. The aim of the club is to increase the use of the Finnish language and improve the position of Finnish speakers in society.

1 July

The first Finnish industrial exhibition starts in Helsinki. The exhibition is visited by Alexander II, the ruler of Finland.
