Anneli Jäätteenmäki becomes the first female prime minister of Finland. For the first time, ministerial positions are equally divided between women and men. However, Jäätteenmäki has to step down in June when it emerges that, during the election campaign, she had obtained, through dubious means, secret material on the Iraq War.
